Good Advice for Models
By Linda Mellor Photography

Making contact with a Photographer, what do I say?

All photographers should be professional, polite, friendly and able to advise you. Linda Mellor is a local photographer, she is very approachable and is always happy to speak to people on the telephone or answer emails.

I've never posed for a professional Photographer before, is that a problem?

Definitely not a problem! Linda will give you plenty advice and guide you through all the poses. See below for posing tips.

What to bring with you?

Talk to your photographer, Linda will be able to give you guidance on what to bring with you or if there is a particular theme she can suggest various types of clothing. Wear an outfit you are comfortable in and one that makes you feel good about yourself, it is very typical to take a couple of outfits with you to a photography shoot. If you wear jewellery please don't forget to wear it on the day of the shoot - accessories look good in photographs. If you are unsure please bring the items with you and Linda will be able to advise.

What do I do about my appearance?

Do your hair and make up so you are happy and feel good about yourself and are ready to be photographed. If you wear make up please bring your make up with you.  Guys, do your hair as you normally would so you are happy with your appearance. Again, your photographer will guide you if she wants you to be clean shaven or otherwise.

Do you have any posing tips?

Listen to the photographer, she can see your poses through the camera and will guide you through the poses and what sort of facial expression she is looking for. Some poses will involve you looking away from the camera, looking at the camera, moving your head position, turning to one side and then the other, sitting down, standing up, leaning, moving and bending your arms and legs perhaps a smile, a pout or a laugh.

Try not to hold your breath when you are posing, as your concentration usually shows in the photograph and can lead to unnatural looking poses.  Good posture is essential, most people do not have very good posture so keep your back straight and your shoulders up and hold your stomach in.

I'm nervous about the shoot, what should I do?

Try not to worry or get nervous about a photo shoot. You will find working with Linda is very good fun and it is very interesting. Linda will chat with you before the shoot begins, she will help you relax, answer any questions, and share any ideas you may have.

I'm only 13 can you still photograph me?

Yes I can. Please talk with your parent or guardian and but you will have to ask your parent or guardian to telephone me before we can confirm a photography shoot. Anyone under the age of 16 will have to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

I have a theme in mind, can a photographer help me?

Yes, whatever type of theme you have in mind a photographer can help you. You may want your photos to look a certain way, you may want to look a certain look. Talk to Linda, she is a very creative photographer and can ensure you get the result you want.

I just fancy being photographed but I'm not sure how my photos would turn out?

Everyone can look fantastic when the photographer knows what they are doing! Linda prides herself on making sure you look your best for your photographs, you won't be disappointed. Relax and enjoy the experience!

I want to buy a photo shoot for someone as a surprise gift, can you help?
